Current LA Favorites: 1st Edition

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I have been all over the LA scene: museums, lunch spots, lookout points and everything in between. As I check things off, I continually add things in. There’s so much to do and see, I’m enjoying all of it, especially the delicious food!

Below is a list of some of my current faves –

cerveteca

Coffee

Akasha Cafe (Downtown Culver City) – I’m very particular about how coffee tastes, and while Urth caffe is really popular, I actually prefer Akasha Cafe. This little coffee shop is next to Akasha restaurant (which serves delicious food with live jazz great date place).  They offer the standard coffee drink selection, but it’s just much more delicious than any of the other places I’ve tried. I love their iced mocha. While I admit it’s pretty pricey, it’s also much better quality.

Breakfast Burrito

Cofax (Fairfax)- Just nails everything great about a breakfast burrito: smoked potatoes, delicious meat filling with the right amount of egg/cheese ratio, paired with two delicious salsas on the side. The flavors are so well balanced, it makes waking up early to avoid the long lines worth it.

Sunday Breakfast

Griddle Cafe (Hollywood) – This place is kind of a landmark and well-worth it. Everything my husband and I tried, we loved. Their known for their huge portions, so bring your family and friends to share and like any popular place in LA, go really early.

Tacos

Mexicali Tacos (Chinatown) – There is an abundance of taco restaurants and shops, but Mexicali Tacos has easily become my favorite. My mom is from Mexicali, so I have a sweet spot for authentic baja style tacos and Mexicali Taco knows how to do them right. Their queso fundido is a must try and of course their Mexicali tacos are the go-to. {Honorable Mention: Cerveteca}

Date Spot/Brunch Spot

little next door

Little Next Door (Beverly Grove) – Everything about the Little Next Door is charming; from their patio dinning, French decor and music to their unique menu items. It’s a great place to enjoy a meal with great company.

Drinks with the Girls

Gracias Madre (1)

Gracias Madre (West Hollywood) – Everyone seems to love this place and while I’m not a big fan of vegan fare, their drinks are fantastic. Perfectly strong, unique and instagram worthy. The ambiance and decor are great as well, which make it the perfect place to go with friends for some delicious cocktails and gossip.

Seafood

Catch & Release (Marina del Rey) – Many people either love or hate seafood, I of course LOVE it. Catch & Release knows how to do seafood right. Everything is so well seasoned and fresh. The service is equally amazing as well. Great dinner date spot, highly recommend the Lobster roll, clam bake and their seafood platter. Really, anything on the menu is delicious.

Hidden Gem

The Bar at Culver HotelThe Bar at Culver Hotel (Downtown Culver City) – There’s a lot of great places in downtown Culver City, but the Culver Hotel has the coolest vibe. Their patio area is great to enjoy drinks and people watch, or you can go hang out inside and listen to some live music or my favorite: head to their tiny/hidden upstairs bar. Their upstairs bar has a fun speakeasy feel with available seating and tasty cocktails. It’s a great place to go to with friends or a date.
