Local Spotlight: Fig & Olive

Recently my husband and I went out on a date night to Fig & Olive and I was so excited to try it out. The restaurant had been on my list to try since I heard they were going to be opening a location in LA & Orange County almost 2 years ago. Can’t believe I waited so long, but I’m glad it lived up to the hype that the original New York location started.

The ambiance at Fig & Olive is so classy. White decor, large windows, tall ceilings and soft lighting – it’s the perfect location for a date night or a special dinner celebration. I would highly recommend making reservations ahead of time as the place is always packed. Luckily we grabbed a nice little snug table and had great service. Unfortunately due to the lighting and the fact that we went for dinner, my pictures came out quite dark. Regardless we had such a great time, I wanted to share my experience.

When you’re seated, the servers bring you a few different types of olive oil to try with some bread while you look over your menu. The olive oils were so tasty, each one has it’s own unique flavor.  After reviewing their drink menu, I ordered the Summer in Provence and my husband ordered the Fig & Olive Dirty Martini – both of the drinks were excellent, we had to order another round!

For dinner, we started out with the Burrata & Heirloom Tomato Caprese salad which was very fresh & flavorful. For the main entree I ordered the Paella Del Mar and my husband ordered the Veal Milanese. We were both very pleased with our dishes, my paella came with the largest shrimp, so plump and perfectly cooked. The mussels were fresh and the calamari was tender. Everything was very well seasoned, which was great. The service was friendly and helpful. Our waiter gave us great recommendations.

Unfortunately we were too stuffed to order dessert, so I could taste-test the dessert menu, but there’s always next time! Only downside to Fig & Olive is the wait, you definitely need a reservation. Prices are a little on the pricier side, so it’s a great place to go for a birthday, anniversary, celebration or fancy date night. Considering it’s located at Fashion Island, I love that parking is free and easy.

Overall it’s a great little addition to the west coast!
