On top of the LA hills overlooking the vast city of angels is the Griffith Observatory. An attraction I hadn’t been to and now hope to go back to soon. It’s a great place to get nerdy and learn about astronomy. Even if you didn’t love space, I can’t imagine you wouldn’t like the Observatory. Not only does it have the best views of LA, it’s also free (as in free parking and free entrance for everyone – in LA, this is unheard of). It makes for such a great date or day trip.
The only fees they have are to watch a show in their planetarium, which I highly recommend. My husband and I chose to watch “Centered in the Universe” and it was such a fun experience. You sit in these comfy tilted chairs and you look out onto a screen of twinkling stars while they discuss the universe – no one should miss it.
The only possible con is the parking lot, which is extremely small. I suggest getting there before they open to snag a parking spot. However parking is also available along the sides on the drive up to the Observatory, which means you’ll have to walk up – but it’s worth.
TIPS: If you’re going during the day, get there early to snag a parking spot and pack a picnic. There’s a great grassy area to relax in the front. This place is the perfect date spot with city views at night. Take someone special!
