Last November my husband and I took a trip up the California coast for our 4 year anniversary and it was one of the best trips. If you ever want to take a road trip, nothing beats driving up the California coast. We drove from Orange County and made several stops along the way in about a week and visited the prettiest places: Santa Barbara, Solvang, San Luis Obispo, Cambria, San Simeon, Big Sur and Monterey Bay. Our favorite place we visited was Big Sur. No doubt, the most beautiful city in California. Highly recommend everyone visit at least once.
When we told people we were heading up to Big Sur, they told us to be sure to visit Nepenthe’s for lunch. I checked the Yelp reviews and took a look at the online pictures and was extremely excited to try it out. The hype is true. I was blown away with how stunning the views are, how fresh the air is and their tasty menu. Patio seating is the way to go, be sure to wait for the outdoor seating. You have views of the forest and the ocean, it’s a sight to see. You’re literally having a meal in the middle of a forest, it’s such a cool experience.
My husband and I shared the caprese salad, he chose the Smoked Wild Salmon as his entree and I chose the ever popular Ambrosia burger. If you decide to order a burger or sandwich be aware that they do not come with fries. They do have fries on the menu, however you have to order them as an extra side. I had an option of choosing a garbanzo-bean salad, coleslaw or green salad as my side, and I chose to do half the bean salad and coleslaw to try them both, and the bean salad was delicious, highly recommend it.
The prices are a little expensive, but everything in Big Sur is expensive. And really, you are paying for the views at Nepenthe – who are you kidding?! But boy are the views worth it! It was one of my favorite places I’ve ever visited, and I hope to go back one day.
Have you ever visited Big Sur, any places you recommend?!
TIPS: Lunch is the best time to go. Be sure to ask for outside seating, it’s the best way to experience this place.
NOTE: As always, all local spotlights are my personal opinion and are not sponsored. I only feature what I would recommend.
