I love Mexican food, being Mexican myself – Mexican restaurant imitations tends not to fare well for my palette. Discovering Sanchos has been great surprise. I have yet to try something I don’t like.
For starters, the decor is funky. Gangster-funk I’d call it. But fear not, this is part of its charm. It’s a no frills, no resort-style $$$ enchiladas, just good food. You can tell it’s authentic flavors come through the food. Real spices, tender meat – they don’t hold back. The carnitas is my favorite. It has such robust flavors, tender and juicy. The portions are what you’d expect your Mexican mom to serve you, which is too much!
The original location is in Huntington Beach off PCH, just across the beach. It’s latest restaurant opened in Newport Beach. Smaller, but just as tasty.
Tips: Great for a quick lunch. If you love chips and salsa, be sure to order a side. They’re chips are homemade, crunchy and perfect. Carnitas is their shining star in my eyes, but you really can’t go wrong, even the fish is nice and flaky.
Parking: They have their own lots to park, so no need to drive around looking for a space. But if it’s packed, park across the street in the parking structure, but be prepared to pay.
NOTE: As always, all local spotlights are my personal opinion and are not sponsored. I only feature what I would recommend.
